Nectar Of The Gods
"German trio The Spacelords have over time confirmed themselves as one of the most interesting modern Psychedelic Space/Krautrock bands. The new album “Nectar Of The Gods” was released on October 20, 2023 via Tonzonen Records and contains four epic tracks ranging from 9:39 to over 14 minutes long. The title track “Nectar Of The Gods,” which is the ‘shortest,’ however, runs over 9:30 and immediately immerses us in the band’s signature sounds. A granitic rhythm section with solid drumming and a killer, deep, driving bassline gives body to the sound. The guitar is free to work and evolve the central theme of the track through the epic instrumental textures the band creates. The listener is led by the trio through a psychedelic journey with heavy stretches and forays into Space Rock. The riffs are well constructed and always incisive, and the modulations and layering create lysergic, enveloping melodies. A softer sound opens “Endorphine High,” emphasising more the psychedelic aspect of the band. The atmospheres are ethereal and the guitar weaves arpeggios over a hypnotic, repeated background. The bass is deep and load-bearing and together with solid drumming creates a linear and incisive rhythm section. The intensity increases as the minutes go by and the central theme of the song evolves, with the listener being completely enveloped and guided by the band through its more Acid Psychedelia sounds. “Mindscapes” opens with rhythmic drumming, and then opens up to develop into a gritty piece of heavy psychedelia. The guitar is at the centre of the sound with well-crafted riffs and scratchy solo inserts. The monolithic rhythm section accompanies us throughout the track, adding a Heavy touch to the sound. Another pleasant trip of over 9 minutes, in a continuous musical crescendo, exploring the more energetic facet of the trio’s sound. The closing track “Lost Sounds Of Lemuria” features Jens Eberhard as guest on Rhodes and organ. In the first part, the rhythm section moves slowly, with a deep, hypnotic bass line and solid, minimal drumming. The guitar and keyboards weave and layer into the melodies between arpeggios and sounds enriched by effects. The intensity increases as the song progresses, incorporating heavier guitar sounds and blending Psychedelia and Prog thanks to the keyboards, which are perfectly inserted into the musical context of the track. Between layered solo inserts and modulations with an excellent use of effects, the band takes us towards the end of the track and the album in a continuous musical crescendo, intense and full of quality cues. The German trio offers another quality release, their sixth for Tonzone Records, a label that is always attentive to highlighting artists from the Psychedelic Rock genre and beyond. The band’s characteristic style of long, epic tracks with rich instrumental textures is also confirmed in this new release. Four intense tracks, which take us on a journey together with the band, exploring all the musical facets that make up their sound. A recommended listen for all lovers of Psychedelic and Space Rock sounds with forays into Krautrock, confirming the band as one of the best on the modern scene of the genre." - ProgRock Journal
