We Are The Truth
"When Hasse Fröberg (The Flower Kings) and his musical companions reload the gun and fire their fifth volley, We Are The Truth, it is with a hit that could make Ragnar Skanåker himself green with jealousy and with a sound that exudes confidence and gaming joy. Directly in the introductory To Those Who Rule The World, the bar is set on the dish with alternately rocking claws, alternately with an epic that both caresses and tears. Faithful listeners are already accustomed to the fact that the front man's golden vocal cords are a true joy to experience. And this time, the voice sounds powerful and full-bodied over a song material that is enormously versatile, but for the sake of the consumer starting to gape after psychiatric evaluation due to. suspected schizophrenia.
But it is not just the main character who gets to shine in this delicious dish, well then. Guitarist Anton Lindesjö is given several chances for both technical finesse as well as melodic solo creations and plays in a way that few in the country's borders are able to. Kjell Haraldsson caresses keys so tastefully and imaginatively that the game breathes both Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson, which is among the finest reviews that can be given in the field. The newcomer on four-string, Sampo Axelsson, together with drummer Ola Strandberg, forms a superb rhythm section that swings like Stig Blomqvist's classic rally race and donates the dish just right with shit under his nails.
But let's return to the song material, because here is a plethora of future HFMC classics. Already the second track, Other Eyes is like a small rock operetta in itself as it drastically changes shape during its more than ten minutes but still feels so well cohesive. Lovely vocal arrangements drizzle denser than Donald Trump's piano trampoline and give the work a lively luster.
Yes, the whole production completely vibrates with warmth and a cocky attitude that feels both welcoming and self-evident. HFMC has never released anything that is even close to weak and with We Are The Truth they take the step up to the top of the progelite. Everything I liked about their previous creations is here, only in an even better version. Take the heartbreaking but still so life-affirming ballad Every Second Counts, for example, which in a fair world would have become a top list rocket.
We Are The Truth is not without flaws, but even a diamond with flaws can excel with its many facets and HFMC's fifth give sparkles and glimmers like freshly fallen snow on a sunny January morning. 2021 has proven to offer an awful lot of fine tiles and Hasse and the gang slip loose and free up to the absolute top of the list. Naming the best album of the year will be a challenge, to say the least.
Perfectly brilliant." - Rocknytt
