I had not thought about this album for years so my first surprise was to see it reissued on CD. My second surprise is that it comes to us courtesy of the German label Long Hair Records. Sabicas was one of the world renowned flamenco guitarists.

"This is the first official reissue on CD of this extremely rare album, originally released in 1978 on the Brutkasten label. A very varied fusion album IM TAL DER EMMEN blends Embryo and Zappa/Mothers like rock and jazz mixtures, with a rich instrumental palette, full of solos and invention.

"Miles’ touted “Fillmore Band” didn’t sound much like a band to me. In an area of music where individual virtuosity is the rule rather than the exception, give-and-take between players becomes all important.

2CD reissue of what was a legendary Japan-only live album from 1972. IMO, this is the prime period of Weather Report. The music is exploratory jazz rock with out any of the smooth jazz trapping that would envelop the band in later years.

Fifth album from this incredible instrumental quartet from Munich. Shame it arrived in the last days of 2022 as it would sit high on many "top 10" lists for the year. Regardless it deserves recognition whatever year you want to place it.

"Strasbourg's eccentric and eclectic Zeuhl/avant garde/RIO "ensemble" (more like a small orchestra!) have produced a sequel to their 2011 "soundtrack" to an imaginary alien space invasion. The band has matured as both individual instrumentalists and as a cohesive collective.

From their beginnings as a psychedelic rock band in 1966, sharing stages with Pink Floyd and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, to being one of the originators of electric jazz/rock by early 1969, Britain’s Soft Machine were restlessly creative. The Dutch Lesson captures them in late October, 1973.
