"With any release from The Agonist, there’s never a lack for musical diversity. The band, from its infancy, has been all about cultivating a musical landscape that was meant to stand out from the rest of the heavy metal circuit.

"Barren Earth took me completely by surprise. As a rule I do not post reviews of records from labels that do not send me promos of them. I think it’s a disincentive for them to do so and generally bands don’t deserve the promotion.

"When multiple members of a sextet juggle recording and touring responsibilities for known entities such as Kreator, Turisas, and Moonsorrow, rest assured that new studio product isn’t going to hit the streets for a little while.

"Finland’s Barren Earth started as the bastard child of Amorphis and Swallow the Sun. Their first record, Curse of the Red River sounded like Opeth played by Tuonela-era Amorphis, and the follow-up—The Devil’s Resolve—was similar, if not as good.

Interesting album from this band based out of Jordan of all places. The music has a Middle Eastern feel but that isn't really the focus of what they do as compared to a band like Orphaned Land. The band uses a mix of clean and death vocals to good effect.
