"This CD documents an often overlooked phase in the long and complex history of Soft Machine - Australian drummer Phil Howard's five-month interim behind the drum stool between Robert Wyatt's departure and his eventual long-term replacement John Marshall.

Look what turned up in someone's attic! Archival live recording from Nottingham University on 1/24/76. Nothing unusual about the set but its a fine recording and a good representation of the band at their peak.

Eclectic Italian guitarist that recorded a number of innovative progressive albums through the 70s. This is his first album. Although it's a full band the emphasis is on Zappa's acoustic guitar work and loops.

There seems to be a never ending supply of female fronting gothic metal bands coming out of Poland. Well they all seem to be on Metal Mind Productions and frankly they all seem pretty good to me! Delight is the latest entrant in the race and I am digging the hell out of them.

Very obscure German power metal band for the Blind Guardian set. Private pressing.

Once upon a time there was a brilliant Canadian composer musician named Franck Dervieux. In 1971 he recorded a great album of classically influenced progressive rock called "Dimensione M". Dervieux passed away at an early age due to cancer.

Italian symphonic duo augmented by an array of musicians. Malaavia doesn't particularly try to go for that classic Italian sound - instead it has a little bit more of a modern feel. Female and male vocals sit well together contributing a very uptempo sound.

Latest from the Swedish hard rock Gods fronted by Wuthering Heights vocalist Nils Patrik Johansson. Like Jorne Lande, Johansson is a bit of a vocal chameleon. If you like Dio era Sabbath you need to hear this band.

First time on CD for this Italian rarity from 1972. Not as much prog moves as suggested. This is proto-prog - some swirling organ and mellotron bits - nothing too complex going on here. Vocals are split between English and Italian.

Downtuned metal from Finland. All the prerequisite gothic elements are present - symphonic keys, male/female vox, violin, etc. What was surprising was the emphasis placed on melodies. This is a strong point other bands should consider...

Modern aggro/metal band put together by Soilwork vocalist Bjorn Strid and former Blind Guardian (and current Savage Circus) drummer Thomas Stauch. This one is filled with mega-crunch, hooks, electronic blasts and a mix of clean and coarse vocals. It's a mix of Mnemic and Disturbed.

Their previous album, Unia, was pretty much reviled by this Finnish band's fanbase. They moved away from the Stratovarious style speed metal and went for something a bit slower and perhaps a touch more progressive.
$13.00 -
By now Finland's Stratovarius has settled into a groove cultivating melodic power metal with neoclassical and symphonic elements. Don't look for any surprises and you won't be disappointed.

Second album from this interesting Danish band incorporating elements of thrash, death and even melodic metal in an usual way. Curiously enough this was created as a binaural recording and should be listened to with headphones. Recommended to fans of Meshuggah and Soilwork.
