Systematic Chaos
New album clocks in near 80 minutes. No insanely long epics and the album is probably all the better for it. About as proggy as these guys have ever gotten.
Product Review
This is a bit disappointing to me , A bit of a departure for me, Sounds a little more grungy to me, A few stand outs, but nothing earth shattering.....B.R.

Glad to see I'm not the only one disappointed by this album. I don't get what all the 'hype' is about. Most reviews are praising this album as the best thing they've done in years. I think Train of Thought was miles better than this album. Sure technically they are brilliant we all know that but we've heard it all before. Most songs sound the same..slow to start, build and then break into technical wankery by Petrucci and Rudess. But the songs themselves are not memorable, in fact most are a bit boring and repeatitive...in my humble opinion anyway. There are too many great bands out there producing melodic, original and exciting Prog-Metal e.g Spheric Universe Experience and the brilliant debut by Thought Chamber. Sorry DT, but for me your crown is slipping.

Another masterpiece by Dream Theater. Only this band can release such a great album after 21 years of playing together. The Ministry of Lost Souls is one of their best ever, while the epic is an amazing track divided into 2 and prove wonderful musicanship . Forsaken presents some of the best solos of John Petrucci while Constant Motion and Dark Eternal Night present the heavier and crunchy side of this record.
To sum up a very balanced album!
Above all, it's James Labrie who shines in this album like in the times of Awake, the guy is outstanding throughout the whole album!
Definitely worth a buy for every prog fan!

I disagree with the negative reviews on this CD. As Mr. Golden said " It's about as proggy as these guys have ever gotten". Closer to Train Of Thought then Octovarium. It's heavy most of the time. No long slow sections at all. The heavy stuff reeks of what D.T. do best (and what put them on the musical map in the 1st place). Very Melodic TECHNICAL METAL. With more key and time signature changes then one can shake proverbial a stick at. Mr Labrie has never sounded better and the whole band, as always, is as tight as a band needs to, to play music as challenging as this. I think the band always puts 100% into their recordings no matter what a persons personal opinion may be.
Everybody in the prog. metal world has something to say about this band and all the negative reviews for any of their CDs are people just looking to bitch n' moan. If you are a person that loves Progressive Metal you should thank your lucky stars Dream Theater ever had the balls and determination to play this style of music with no compromises. Without them there would be no P.O.S., Vanden Plas, Circus Maximus, Lemur Voice, Mindflow, Dreamscape, Outworld, Power of Omens, Redemption... My god the list goes on and on and on. I myself like their heavier stuff so this CD along with Train of Thought and Images and Words are my favorites but that's not to say the other's are a disappointment to me there just not as much to my PERSONAL liking. Lets give credit to whom credit is due. 5 stars. Pyramids. What ever.
