New album clocks in near 80 minutes. No insanely long epics and the album is probably all the better for it. About as proggy as these guys have ever gotten.
This is the 3CD special edition which features the regular album as well as an album of cover songs, and a disc with an instrumental mix of the album.
Although only 6 cover songs its a long bonus disc:
"This album's a musical and emotional rollercoaster, but most of our albums are,' Mike Portnoy says of Black Clouds & Silver Linings, Dream Theater'
New studio album from the prog metal forefathers. Sadly this will be Mark Zonder's swansong with the band. Musically speaking FWX seems to return back to the lighter progressive rock leanings of APSOG. I don't hear any of the harsher industrial overtones that crept into Disconnected.
"On their last album to date, these erstwhile proggy hard rockers metallized their sound even more. An attempt to appeal to a wider audience, maybe. It's not THAT heavy. The vocalist is too pleasant and music too rooted in classic rock for that. I could call it dark power metal maybe.
Yet another groove 'n riff monster from Devon Graves. Emotion charged slow mover with a definite Tool vibe. Graves calls this "tribal metal" but I would say that it approaches metal from more of a doom angle.
Second album kicks off with a monster 25 minute track. A must own just for pure technicality and musical chops. Still hate the singer...
The second album of a projected 4 disc series. This one is heavier than Ki and also features Anneke Van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering) as guest vocalist.
"I was totally unaware that Pain Of Salvation was coming out with a new EP until I was offered the chance to review it. While I would not consider myself a Pain Of Salvation die-hard like some of my friends, I really enjoyed "The Perfect Element Pt. I" quite a bit.
"Dream Theater's Chaos In Motion World Tour kicked off June 3rd, 2007 in Milan Italy and ended on June 4th 2008 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Chaos In Motion 2007-2008 captures it all. Legendary drummer Mike Portnoy has assembled over 3 hours of live performances spanning the globe.
