Long running Norwegian prog rock/hard rock band decided to go with vocals in their native tongue for this release. Lucifer Was' music has a bit of a retro dark quality and heaviness to it - perhaps a touch of Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep but also Jethro Tull as well.

"You have to admire a group that name themselves after one of the most legendary albums in prog history, and Norway’s Laughing Stock live up to their namesake. Jan Mikael Sørensen, Håvard Enge, and Jan Erik Kirkevold Nilsen have released a very fine album that leaves me wanting more.

Some changes are afoot with this excellent Norwegian prog band. The band has left Black Widow Records and moved over to Apollon Records, an upstart Norwegian label that seems to be signing prog rock bands right and left. Another change is the band is singing in Norwegian instead of English.

Upstart Norwegian label Apollon Records seems to be stealing the thunder from Karisma Records as far as who can sign the best bands from Scandinavia. Ring Van Möbius is a debut album that sounds like it was record 47 years ago...and I love it.

"Professor and poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow from Harvard University once said, “Music is always a universal language.” It has been around for many centuries whether we feel sad, happy, excited, and joyful surrounding the sounds of music. It’s always been with us for many years to come.

In 2016 Shamblemaths blew us all away with their homage to 70s prog. Simen Å. Ellingsen is back and the results are no less astounding. Shamblemaths II is a retro-prog shape-shifter that will keep you guessing from the first note. A late year contestant for Album Of Year. BUY OR DIE!

New side project from White Willow flautist Ketil Einarsen. Essentially this is his tribute to 70s krautrock but with some symphonic rock bits added in for good measure. Not purely electronic it features drumming and guitars from White Willow bandmates Mattias Olsson and Jacob Holm-Lupo.

"Professor Tip Top is a another new discovery for me. The band hails from Bergen, Norway and to my knowledge has three albums to their credit; Are You Empirical (2011), Aoum (2012) and their latest offering Exobiology (2016).

Reissue of the 2017 release by this Norwegian multi-instrumentalist. Buaas strikes me as a bit of a modern day Mike Oldfield. He plays some wicked guitar but its laid down over some nice symphonic keyboards. Overall proggy and nice.

"Analog puritists Ring Van Möbius are known for being true to the original progressive rock philosophy, combining 60’s/70’s instruments with the old art of tape recording, adding their own touch of musical creative madness.

Outstanding third album from this Brazilian prog trio. The band has very strong flavors of 70s Italian and English bands. I hear a particular affinity to ELP - lots of organ work at play. In essence this is keyboard dominated prog the way we like it.
