Second full length disc from this excellent French Canadian jazz rock quartet. The focus of the band is guitarist Jean-Francois Girard who is quite tasteful but can tear it up when necessary. The electric piano of Guillaume Dostaler adds a touch of 70s retro funk without sounding corny. Overall the music has a real nice groove to it. The album is supposedly conceived as a tribute to Carlos Santana. Apart from the title track there really isn't much of a musical connection. Highly recommended.

  • "Marbles was originally released on the band's own Racket Records label and attracted a lot of attention when it was released as the album had been funded by donations from fans who had pre-ordered the album before they started recording in return for having their name printed within the album artwork (over 18,000 names). This new 2CD Madfish edition of the album is packed in a deluxe 36 page digibook re-worked by original designer Carl Glover. The book features unseen pictures not used in the original artwork. The tracks on the second disc have previously only been available through the band's own website."

  • The MPS Project is a trio led by keyboardist Michael Pelz-Sherman. He's a very gifted musician who has clearly been influenced by Chick Corea and Jan Hammer.  He concentrates on electric keyboards but piano figures prominently.  The music is easily categorized as fusion in the tradition of Return To Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra but probably leans ever so slightly towards the jazz side of the spectrum.  My understanding is the band tore it up at Progday 2014.  Highly recommended."The MPS Project is a group of veteran professional musicians living in the Triangle region of North Carolina and dedicated to creating original, progressive Jazz. Our music explores the intersections of jazz, progressive rock, and 70's-style fusion in the tradition of Return to Forever and Weather Report. Informed by contemporary chamber music, collective free improvisation, and modern "jam-band" sensibilities, the MPS Project boldly and expertly covers a wide swath of musical territory, ranging from heartfelt lyrical ballads to ethereal sonic textures to complex rhythmic structures to blistering electronic funk. Their debut CD, "Goes Without Saying," features six compositions by leader Michael Pelz-Sherman, two extended free improvisations, and a unique arrangement of Steve Swallow's jazz standard, "Falling Grace"."

  • We have some customers who collect digipaks. This is the import version of +4626 Comfortzone.  The content is identical to the much less expensive domestic jewel box version.  If you need to have a digi version jump on it as this is a limited edition and will definitely go out of print.Latest studio album from this outstanding band from Sweden.  The best thing about Beardfish is their ability to be contemporary but they blend in just enough old school sounds to appeal to the entrenched prog fan base.  The band never quite sounds retro yet they incorporate vintage keys and guitar sounds. Chalk this up to great songwriting. On their previous album, The Void, something went amiss and it didn't sit well with their fans.  The band had taken on a heavier edge touching on metal.  Well have no fear - the band has jettisoned all metal trappings and have returned to the sound of the earlier albums.  Swirls of organ and Mellotron are everywhere and the unmistakeable sound of the Rickenbacker bass will slam you in the gut.  Are you are fan of Anekdoten, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, or even The Flower Kings?  You need to hear this. With regards to the bizarre album title here is a clue from the band:“The comfort zone is the invisible protective suit of negative thinking, almost like an entity of itself. It’s been with you since birth: your parents and your teachers and your friends and your neighbours all teaching you the way the world works – this is how it is and will be and there’s nothing you can do about it. The negative vibe is like a voice living inside of you, a companion through life. With time you start to like that voice and the place it takes you to: your comfort zone. I’m so sick and tired of it and I want to address it and maybe in that way start to work my way out of it”+4626 Comfortzone comes with a bonus CD featuring 13 previously unreleased demo and outtake tracks spanning 2002-2008.BUY OR DIE!

  • 28 years is a long time for a band to stay together but that's how long Woodenhead has been playing together. They have quietly cultivated a dedicated cult following in New Orleans. Now Free Electric Sound is bringing this extraordinary quartet to a national audience. Woodenhead's music is a spicy gumbo of jazz fusion, symphonic rock and local R 'n' B flavors (sorry for the wordplay!) The group has toured the U.S. and Central America and has played the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for over 20 years. The band has played with the Dixie Dregs, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham, Chick Corea's Elektrik Band, John McLaughlin Trio, Bela Fleck and The Flecktones, Tuck And Patti, Hugh Masekela, Spyro Gyra, Robben Ford, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and John Mayall, and has toured with the Steve Morse Band and Allan Holdsworth."Perseverance", the band's 6th album, was recorded live in New Orleans and captures all the energy and emotional playing of a Woodenhead gig. Augmented by a horn section, the band's music comes across as a blend of the Dixie Dregs, Happy The Man, and Hot Rats-era Zappa. This is an album with broad appeal to fans of jazz rock, prog rock and even Cajun music. "At the New Orleans jazz festival, Woodenhead gets a standing ovation for teaching traditional jazz fans just how far imagination and electricity can push the form" - Esquire magazine

  • Long sought after fusion album from drummer/keyboardist Patrick Forgas is now finally available on CD. Originally released in 1977 on the Gratte Ciel label, Cocktail will score with any fan of Pierre Moerlen's Gong, Jean-Luc Ponty and Soft Machine. The music is a continuous whirlwind of percussion, violin, keyboards, sax, flute and wordless vocals. Zao bassist Gerard Provost lends a Magma-like heaviness to the bottom end of the sound spectrum. The 18 minute "My Trip" lives up to its name - a long musical journey that will keep you off balance through out. Packed with lots of bonus material, Cocktail is a killer package.

  • Seventh album from one of the leading lights of the modern progressive rock movement.  The album demonstrates the band expanding the scope of their sound a bit as some of the material has a metallic quality.  Overall though the band stays true to their roots - plenty of 'tron, organ and analog keyboard sounds to be heard.  These guys didn't forget where they came from.  They just crossed over to the dark side...a little bit.  Embrace the crunch and enjoy.  Highly recommended.

  • John Sund is an overlooked but superb fusion guitarist from Denmark.  This is an astounding album he recorded in 1993 with the Danish Radio Big Band as well as his band.  Its a full integration of musicians with Sund displaying some blazing chops.  Quite mature work that strikes me as a cross between a Terje Rypdal album and Banco's Di Terra.  A beautiful marriage of rock and jazz.  We scored cheap copies.  Grab them while we have them.  Highly recommended.

  • At this point with The Flower Kings on hiatus, Jonas Reingold's "other" band Karmakanic has stepped up to the plate and assumed the mantle of Swedish neo kings. Highly melodic - dare I say catchy? - with chops from hell. Goran Edman is a great vocalist that is chameleon-like in his ability to fit in with a prog rock or metal band. When will Lalle Larsson get acknowledged as one of the best keyboardists in progressive music? This guy continues to amaze. Reingold sounds like he's strapped on a Rickenbacker and is out-Squiring the old man. Fans of The Flower Kings and Spock's Beard need to get on board if they already haven't. These guys throw it down with the best of 'em. Highly recommended.

  • THEY FINALLY DID IT!This amazing 2015 release finally sees the light of day on CD.  It was available for some time as a vinyl only release (may be out of print in that format now).  The album generated a big buzz but not everyone was committed to vinyl.  The band has heard of cries of woe and accomodated you! This is what I wrote 2 years ago.  Now substitute the word CD everytime you see the word vinyl and it still holds:Vinyl only release of what might well be the album of the year for many in the prog community.  This will easily sit very high in my 2015 Top 10.Hooffoot are an instrumental sextet from Sweden consisting of two keyboardists, two guitarists, bass, and drums.  The members of Hooffoot are drawn from Agusa, Oresund Space Collective, The Carpet Knights, Mantric Muse and others. Is Hooffoot a fusion band?  Yes!  Is Hooffoot a prog rock band?  Yes!  The prime leader of the band is bassist Par Hallgren.  He took his influences which are primarily Italian prog and early 70s electric fusion and melded it into something exciting.  The album consists of two loooong tracks.  Each tune displays elements of electric Miles, Soft Machine, and Il Balletto Di Bronzo.  I'd even toss in some Swedish prog/folk influence from Kebnenajse.  Its a completely retro sound and one that will have to hooked immediately.Stunning debut.  Highest recommendation.

  • Fantastic third album from Flower Kings bassist Jonas Reingold's side project. New lineup includes Lalle Larsson on keyboards - he's one of the sickest, badest mo-fo players on the planet. Classically trained and chops from hell but plays with real sensitivity - not just blazing fast runs. Goran Edman is back on vocals as is drummer Zoltan Cs├Ârsz and Krister Jonsson on guitar. FK keyboardist Tomas Bodin guests as does Andy Tillson and Theo Travis - both from The Tangent. The album opens up with the 20 minute "Send A Message From The Heart" - a monster track that out-Flower Kings the Flower Kings. All killer - no filler. 100% prog guaranteed. Highly recommended.

  • What a strange and quirky band. It's so hard to wrap your head around where these Swedes are coming from that when it's all over I have to shake my head in both wonderment and admiration. A.C.T have the veneer of a commerical oriented band but if you listen carefully there are so many twists to the music (and lyrics) that you realize it's anything but. One of the band's trademarks is to include an epic track and their fourth album doesn't disappoint - it features the grandiose 22 minute, 9 part "Consequences". The CD comes with a bonus multimedia section with live footage. It's easy to see why these guys are getting more and more popular.
