Second album from this French gothic metal band masterminded by Vynce Leff.  Odd situation...for a couple of years the band was fronted by Clementine Delauney, elevating the band's status as they went on tour with Delain.  Clementine left before this album was recorded, touring with Serenity so there is no studio documentation of her as a member of the band.  She has now been replaced Elvyne Lorient. Whyzdom's music is definitely molded in a similar fashion to Delain and Within Temptation.  Its very heavily symphonic and Leff has incorporated a choir into the mix lending an even bigger, more bombastic sound.  Fans of Delain's April Rain should check this one.

  • "It is summer and it's hot in California. For the recording musician it means that air conditioners are causing problems and are generally too loud. So, the musician can either sit on their ass and do nothing or simply switch gears and record an album with sounds that are louder than the air conditioners. This is what Henning Pauly decided to do when he realized that moving on to his rock-opera "Babysteps" was not possible right now. He called up the singer of the new band of his bandmates from Chain, Transmission, in Germany and asked if he was available. Juan Roos immediately said yes to the project, but he only had a two week window and it was two weeks from that phone call. Henning loves deadlines and so he started writing to have the album written and recorded, minus vocals, within two weeks.Henning describes Juan's voice as a perfect blend between Geoff Tate and David Coverdale: "Juan can give you the high stuff, but he can also be really raspy and rocky...his voice just kicks you square in the nuts!"Because of the very limited time frame for the conception and production of "Credit where credit is due" Henning asked his proven writing team to join in when it comes to lyrics and melodies, so Matt Cash is on board again, as are Edward Heppenstall and Jason McSheehy. Several songs on the album loosely deal with the world of rockstars, scandals and getting credit for what one has done. No need, really, to point out here that everyone involved will get credit where credit is due.The music is loud, heavy and realism has been shoved behind production value on the list of priorities. Heavy Industrial Drum sounds are interspersed with acoustic sets. The banjo finds its way into metal again and sometimes you can draw clear parallels to the work of Trent Reznor and Marylin Manson. There's more to it than just that, but the production is clearly more modern than anything Henning is done so far.This CD was about having fun with music and production and it gives Henning a chance to be back in the studio and have fun doing what he loves the most...making music, not talking about it."

  • "PAIN OF SALVATION are back with a stripped down acoustic album. 3 years since their last album “Road Salt Two” this album is seen as a follow up to the 2004 album “12:5”. The whole album was a reimagined version of 8 of their original tracks from different albums/EPs that the band has produced since forming in 1991. The album also includes a new song “Falling Home” (coincidently the name of the album) and two special covers of DIO’s “Holy Diver” and Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day”Starting off with the redo of 1997 track “Stress” you really see that the band have stripped down everything that they had on the song to begin with, there are less drums, less guitars, less of everything really. As for the song even if it was titles “Stress” it’s like a get up and go kind of song, personally I think it would relive any “Stress” and just make you feel so much better about your day, throughout the song you just get random bursts of instruments, a bug part that to me represent little bursts of energy that are an instant mood changer, I think that’s a really big thing in the song to pick up.Going through the album you see in tracks like “Linoleum”, “Chain Sling” , “Mrs Modern Mother Mary”,  “Flame To The Moth” and “Spitfall”  have really been stripped down of the heaviness of  Progressive Rock that PAIN OF SALAVATION are known for. Then there are songs that fit right in to the acoustic vibe, like “1979” and “To the Shoreline” the way that they were rearranged fir perfectly into the way that the album has been structured.  But you really do see what the band are capable of and as you’ve seen it before in previous albums, it shows that they know what they are doing and what direction they want the band to move forward in. They are not a band that wants to be stuck in the same musical pattern. You can see that as a band they have made sure that the transition between track to track has flowed smoothly, and because they’re songs from different albums it was important that the transition was easy, and these guys have executed it so well, you wouldn’t even think that the tracks have come from different albums.As for the covers of “Holy Diver” and “Perfect Day” I think were the best songs to go with the type of band that they are and they fit in well with the album. The covers of the two tracks were done brilliantly, and had a bit of PAIN OF SALVATION into the songs, which is what every cover should be about really. Finally the album title and last song of 9th album to be released from the band is “Falling Home” now this is definitely a way to end an album, it’s just a full on acoustic song from the start, all the way through you just have guitars and vocals which is how any acoustic song should be, and I think it just ties the whole album together. All in all what another great album from PAIN OF SALVATION." - Metal Temple

  • "Dream Evil is by no means a departure from the Dio formula that was so successful for his first three solo albums. All of the elements that made them so successful are yet again retained here. However, what makes things different this time around is that Dio has more of a melodious side to him, which he puts use here rather than relying on the riffs and delivery he learned at the school of Sabbath. He even touches on the power ballad (a sure sign that the style had fully infiltrated metal) with "All the Fool Sailed Away." The title track and "Sunset Superman" also proved to be two of Dio's most well-known, and most loved songs in his massive catalog.   • In the late '90s, Nemesis quickly rose to the top of the Hungarian progressive metal scene with their two albums "Nemesis" and "Abraxas". Frustrated by an inability to cross over into the Western metal arena the band briefly dissolved. After reforming with a new lineup the band decided to re-record and re-arrange their old material but with a major difference: this time around they would sing in English.   • I Califfi made a killer prog rock album in 1972 called "Fiore Di Metallo".  Unfortunately this isn't it.  This is a 2CD collection of their earlier beat/psych sound from the last 60s.  If you like that sound there is a lot of material to dive into here.  Put your nehru jacket on and be happy.

Keyboard solos and compound synth sounds are everywhere to be found and together with the abundant heavy guitar riffs, make for a solid foundation in which bass and drums encircle beautifully.“Wild Card” features a plethora of guest musicians; to begin with, Devin Townsend sings on the track “Neurasthenia” which is part three of “The Anatomy Of A Nervous Breakdown” theme-song and he sounds amazing, then there’s Mark Jansen (EPICA) who delivers some terrifying growls on the song “Misery’s No Crime“. In addition to that, Marcela Bovio (STREAM OF PASSION) and Daniel de Jongh (TEXTURES) recorded the choir parts and harmonies together with Floor and that really adds to the whole Metal feel of the record. Finally Johan van Stratum (STREAM OF PASSION) was recruited last minute to record the bass for “Wild Card” and he did a splendid job if I may say.Thanks to the extreme variety in REVAMP’s “Wild Card“, there’s not a single dull moment overall and with every listening session I find myself discovering more and more in each song; and that’s a wonderful feeling and really what makes “Wild Card” a first-class album.   • While this Pennsylvania based band flirted with prog metal in the past, their fifth album finds they going full bore in the direction of symphonic rock. Its a conceptual work that borders on rock opera. The band is always fronted by a female vocalist - with different ones over the years. The one constant is that Rowen Poole is always able to find excellent ones. Vocalist Ashley Peer sings in an upper register that reminds a bit of Sally Oldfield. A wide variety of keys (even 'tron) imparts a sound that is very reminiscent of Knight Area crossed with Novella-era Renaissance. This is the good stuff.
