Biglietto Per L'Inferno (Mini-LP Sleeve)

One of the classic Italian prog albums comes across as a cross between Jethro Tull and Led Zeppelin. Flute monster accentuated by the great keyboard work of Baffo Banfi.

  • Short lived Italian prog band that recorded this one album for the Bla Bla label (home of Battiato). The band is notable for the inclusion of band member Red Canzian who had a loooong career with I Pooh (I believe they are still together). Capsicum Red's music was pretty typical of the Italian prog style - a strong classical rock approach - they even tackle Beethoven's Patetica Suite. One of my guilty pleasures from Italy.

  • First album from this Italian band featured a heavier sound not to far from Deep Purple.  There are prog and psych moves so if you want to call it "proto-prog" you wouldn't be far off the mark.

  • ONE OF A KIND TITLE FROM THE LASER'S EDGE ARCHIVE"A trully unusual US band from Boston, Fluttr Effect started at the dawn of the millenium simply as Fluttr, led by guitarist Troy Kidwell and marimba player Vessela Stoyanova.Drummer J Marchionna and cellist Valerie Thompson completed the original line-up, soon to be joined by singer Kara Trott.A 4-track eponymous EP was the first work by the group in 2003, followed a year later by their first full-length, independent release ''Trithemis festiva'', at the time when the group still carried the Fluttr name.As already said, Fluttr Effect are a strange group, considering the unusual instrumentation and the different, unrelated styles, appearing in their debut album, and if a label could describe them this would be Modern Art Rock. The unusual material starts off with the blend of edgy, heavy guitar riffs and solos with Chamber-like string arrangements, creating grandiose textures in a very modern way.But there are also elements from Jazz, Electronic and Ethnic Music to be found in this album, depending on the track, offering a really flexible and artistic work of its own character. The constant use of marimba next to the dynamic guitar work adds another charming dimension. The majority of the instrumental parts are really adventurous, often with an experimental KING CRIMSON-eque vibe mixed with nice Heavy Prog tunes, but the band manages to offer in general accesible and refined arrangements through the use of memorable choruses and the tapping heavier grooves.Kara Trott and her highly expressive voice is another reason to listen to this album.Really hard to end up with a succesful description.Maybe a cross between KARNATAKA, THE GATHERING and PAATOS would seal the deal, but again this album needs to be heard to be correctly appreciated. This is definitely a group and an album with a personal style, which simultaneously is quite enjoyable.Very intricate musicianship wrapped in smaller, memorable packages.Strongly recommended." - ProgArchives

  • This must be the 100th version of this great album to see CD.  This is a new digipak version on Cleopatra.  Remastered, it includes a bonus album - the rare Drum Circus "Magic Theatre" which was a precursor to Brainticket."Second album from this seminal Swiss psych band. Led by keyboardist Joel Vandroogenbroeck, Brainticket's overall sound is a bit hard to pinpoint. The band touches on psych but prog as well. One tends to think of them as a psych/krautrock band and that really isn't that too far off the mark. The band incorporates blissful tripped out serene moments juxtaposed by ripping lead guitar. Organ swirls, flute accents, and wasted female vocals are the order of the day...there is even a bit of a west coast psych feel that barely creeps through. I bet these guys would have gone down a ton at the old Fillmore West. The Brainticket catalog has been available as a budget line release from Bellaphon for many years."

  • Fourth and final studio album from the original lineup. Still plenty of good stuff here but marred a bit by an attempt at English vocals.

  • Authorized vinyl edition, limited to 500 copies. This is one of those overlooked gems that only hardcore prog collectors know about and with good reason. The band was signed to the obscure Square Records label and purportedly only 1000 copies were pressed back in 1971. OK - so what hell does it sound like? Basically a head on collision between ITCOTCK King Crimson and The Moody Blues. The album is drenched in Mellotron. flute, and sax leads channeling Ian McDonald. Yeah its a concept album that you'll find a bit corny at this point but probably seemed like a great idea at the time. So the story ended for these guys in the typical fashion - bad management, bad decisions, and a bad contract. The band dissolved after the one album and the rest is history. Definitely up there with Spring, Cressida, Fantasy and their ilk. Apart from Czar and the later day Australian band The Moffs, I can't think of a band that bore such a strong musical similarity to the first iteration of Crimson. Highest recommendation.

  • A new Glass Hammer is like a universal constant.  I can always expect exemplary old school prog rock.  For an old timer like myself Glass Hammer is right in my wheelhouse.  This is their 17th studio album (amazing!) .  If you are unfamiliar with the band you should know it revolves around the core of bassist Steve Babb and keyboardist Fred Schendel.  There have been a lot of musicians through the doors of their studio over the years but somehow they always seem to find an endless supply of them.  The line up seems to be fairly stable at the moment.  Salem Hill mainman Carl Groves handles lead vocals along with Susie Bogdanowicz returning as well.  Guitars are handled by Kamran Alan Shikoh and drums by Aaron Raulston.Glass Hammer music is a reverential amalgam of Yes, ELP, Kansas and what the hell throw in a little bit of Genesis.  Steve and Fred proudly wear their influences on their sleeves.  Want wicked keyboard pyrotechnics?  Fred brings the thunder.  In fact they all do.  The Breaking Of The World arrives with epic length tracks and audiophile quality sound.  I wouldn't want it any other way.  BUY OR DIE!

  • Remastered edition of this 1973 classic from Italy. Duello Madre featured members of Osage Tribe and Circus 2000. The quartet consisted of guitar, sax/flute, bass and drums. Producer Gian Piero Reverberi contributed keyboards on two tracks. The music is an interesting juxtaposition of guitarist Marco Zoccheddu's obvious hard rock influences and Pippo Trentin's jazz oriented sax and flute. In some ways this is a musical foreshadowing of Soft Machine's Bundles. This one is quite a burner and is highly recommended.
